Merlin is a computer based vision system for rough analysing,
with an integral manual marking system.
Merlin has three principal functions:
- It scans the external shape
of the stone and records an image within a few seconds.
- The operator selects whether a brilliant and/or a
fancy is the desired polished shape, and whether it should be sawn or
manufactured as a makeable. The computer then calculates the maximum
yield of the chosen shape(s) and presents it on the computer screen.
- The operator reviews the information and compares
it with his price book. Once the decision has been made the stone is
positioned correctly under the marking pen and the operator draws a
straight and accurate line in the correct position. The marking indicates
a sawing, a table- or a girdle-line.
The system has the ability to offer optimum proportions
within a certain quality for cut models or predetermined proportions.
