The "zoeting" or the "smoothness" of a facet is the degree to which polishing lines are visible. This makes it an important aspect of the finish grade of the facet. As the result of constantly increasing quality demands in the polished diamond market, the issue of smoothness becomes more and more important.
By using a special light source, Avalon visualizes the surface finish of a facet with very high contrast. This request that the facet is positioned perpendicular to the optical axis of the measuring tool, which can be achieved easily when the stone is still in the tang. By allowing the polisher to gauge "smoothness", and intervene if necessary, the Avalon reduces the incidence of stones being repolished, and so raises the efficiency of the manufacturing process. Using the Avalon the polisher is more able to judge "smoothness" than an observer of a stone is able to do later using classical tools. Specifications Image size: facets up to 19mm can be viewed as a whole. The magnification is adjustable.
